This book was problematic for me. Although it was amusing, it suffered at times from a lack of narrative direction. After the basic plot points were covered--boy decides to be librarian, etc.--it devolved into a series of loosely collected patron and staff vignettes and opinions on human behavior. That being said, I think he gave a pretty accurate picture of life behind the reference desk at a big city library: hilarious, touching, sometimes boring, full of staff disgruntlement, and ultimately worthwhile.
